Flow Community - Groups

Flow Groups are a fun way to keep fit in good company. You can create a Flow Group for virtually any exercise-related purpose, share your exercises, comment other members’ training results and so on. Or just join an existing group! A group for your company, a group for marathon training, a group for your family… The choice is yours. Have fun!

A group

 

A Flow Group consists of the parts below:

  • A picture of the group. The group admin can give a picture for the group.
  • Group name. The name that the group admin has given to the group.
  • Group description. The description that the group admin has written for the group.
  • Sports. These icons that tell you which sports the group concentrates on. There can be a maximum of three sports in a group.
  • Members. A member icon and the number of members in the group.

You can also see in the group card if you have new updates in the group, since your latest Flow visit.

Group types

There are three group types: Open, Closed and Private. The table below shows who can join these groups and what people can see about them.

If you have a private profile and join a group, your profile will remain hidden from the other members of the group. The other members will only see your profile name and profile picture in the members list.

How do I create a group?

You can create a new group as follows:

  1. Login to Polar Flow.

  2. Go to Community → Groups, and click the Create new button at the top right-hand corner of the screen.

  3. Enter the mandatory information for the group. The fields marked with an asterisk are mandatory fields:

    1. Name – What is the name of the group?

      There cannot be two groups with the same name in the community.

    2. Description – What is the purpose of the group?
    3. Sport – What are the sports involved? You can select a maximum of three sports. You must select at least one sport.
    4. Location – Where is the group? You must enter the town where the group is located at.
    5. URL – Enter the web address for the group, if any.
    6. Privacy – Choose the privacy level for the group.
    7. Add user – You can start inviting users right away!
  4. Click Create group.

  5. The group is created and you are the group admin. Your group is ready for action!
  6. Next, upload a picture for the group, if you want.
  7. Add also an announcement for the group, if you want.

Uploading a group picture

To upload a picture for your group:

  1. Open the group where you want to add the picture.
  2. Hover your mouse over the default picture of the group. A pen icon appears.

  3. Click the pen icon.
  4. Select Browse.
  5. Select the desired picture from your computer. The picture requirements are:

    • The accepted picture size is between 120-1280 pixels.
    • The accepted picture formats are: JPEG, JPG, GIF, PNG and BMP.
  6. Select Save.

Group admins

If you are a group admin, the instructions below are for you!

If you are a group admin, you are responsible for your group. Maintain your group and moderate the group discussions.

How can I become a group admin?

You can become a group admin in two ways:

  • By creating a group.
  • An existing group admin can add you as another group admin.

What does it mean to be a group admin?

When you are a group admin, you can:

  • Manage existing group members.
  • Manage requests to join a closed or private group.
  • Ban and unban members from participating in the group.
  • Moderate posts.
  • Add announcements for the group.
  • Add or change the group picture.

How do I add and remove members to a group?

You can add a new member to your group as follows:

  1. Open the group.
  2. Write the name of the new member in the Invite to group field.
  3. Click the name of the member that you want to invite to your group.

Can the privacy of a group be changed?

You can change the privacy of the group as follows:

  1. Open the group.
  2. Click the settings wheel.

  3. Select Edit group.
  4. Change the privacy of the group by clicking the desired privacy level in the Privacy area.
  5. Select Update.

How can I create an announcement for group members to see?

An announcement is a news message from the group admin, shown at the top of the group main screen, where it is clearly visible to all group members.

You can create an announcement for the group as follows:

  1. Open the group.
  2. Select Post announcement.
  3. Write your announcement to the Announcement text area.
  4. Select Post announcement again.
  5. Later, you can either edit the announcement, or remove it.

How can I remove a group?

You can only delete a group if you are an admin in the group you want to delete.

Proceed as follows:

  1. Open the group.
  2. Click the group settings wheel.

  3. Select Remove group.
  4. All group members are notified that the group has been removed.

If you are the only member of a group and you leave the group, the group will be removed.

How do I react to reports?

All the posts and groups reported to the group admin, are shown in the admin’s Flow account Notifications. Keep your group tidy by reading the reports, and remember to react to them!

To react to a report:

  1. Open Notifications.
  2. Select VIEW to open and acknowledge the reported post or group.

How do I join a group?

You can freely join open groups, and closed groups by requesting to join. As far as private groups are concerned, you will need an invitation from somebody already in the group, before you can join.

To join a group:

  1. Find the group that you want to join.
  2. Click the group to open it.
  3. There are two alternative ways to join a group:

    • If the group is an open group, click the Join group button. You are now a member of the group.
    • If the group is a closed group, click the Request to join group button. Your request will be sent to the group admin, who decides whether to accept or decline your request. You will receive a notification that tells you if your request was accepted or declined.

Posting to a group

You can post comments, training sessions and activity summaries to groups. However, you cannot post any tests, such as the fitness test or orthostatic test, to groups.

If your training sessions are public, the group members can press the Analyze button to see an analysis of your training session or activity summary. The group members can also press the Relive button to relive your training session on the map, if the training session has been stored with GPS data. If your training sessions are not public, the Analyze button and the Relive button are not visible.

To post a training session or an activity summary to a group:

  1. Press the Add session button.

  2. Select either:
    • Trainings to select the desired training session from your session list. When done, press the Select button.
    • Activity summaries to select the desired activity summary from your activity summary list. When done, press the Select button.
  3. If you want, you can write a comment in the Post to group text area.
  4. Press the Post button.

What if I see inappropriate content?

If you see inappropriate content, you can report it to the group admin.

To report an inappropriate post:

  1. Click the settings wheel icon for the post that you want to report.

  2. Click Report post.
  3. Select the reason for your report by clicking Please tell us why the post should be removed.
  4. Click Report.
  5. Your report will be sent to the group admin, who acts upon the message, if necessary.

To report an inappropriate group:

  1. Click the settings wheel icon for the group that you want to report.

  2. Click Report group.
  3. Select the reason for your report by clicking Please tell us why the group should be removed.
  4. Click Report.
  5. Your report will be sent to the group admin and to Polar moderator, who removes the group, if necessary.

How can I leave a group?

To leave a group:

  1. Open the group.
  2. Click the settings wheel icon for the group.

  3. Select Leave group.

If you are the only member of a group and you leave the group, the group will be removed.

How do I search for Groups?

You can search for groups by using the search fields in the All groups area. You can search for groups by the search criteria below.

  • Sport – You can search for groups by the group sport.
  • Location – You can search for groups by the group location.
  • Name – You can search for groups by text in the group name and description.
  • A combination of the above.

To search for a group:

  1. Enter the search criteria in the search fields.
  2. Press the Search button.
  3. The search results are shown in the All groups area.

Groups are searched from a 40 kilometer range of the selected location.

How do I edit the notification settings for a group?

You can edit the notification settings as follows:

  1. Open the group.
  2. Click the settings wheel icon for the group.

  3. Select Manage notifications.
  4. The Manage notifications screen is opened:
  5. Select the notification settings with the check boxes. The options are:
    • Someone comments on my post – If you check this check box, you will get a notification whenever someone comments a post that you have sent to the group.
    • Someone likes my post – If you check this check box, you will get a notification whenever someone likes a post that you have sent to the group.
  6. When done, click Apply.
