The main idea of fitness testing is to get information about one’s physical condition and to see on what fitness level a person is. When a person gets the test result, he/she can compare it to the population norms, the average values of people of the same age and gender.
Fitness testing motivates and inspirits a person to start, maintain or increase physical exercise. The tests are most useful when following individual progress by comparing new results to previous ones. The test shows the improvement in cardiovascular (aerobic) fitness.
Fitness tests are the cornerstone of personal training. When a person knows his/her test result, it is easier to choose the right exercise heart rates.
To be able to follow the progress, the test should always be carried out under the same conditions:
The same fitness test
The same equipment and calibration
The same time of the day
